Hello Hams:

One more day until the national "Field Day" exercise! This exercise may
be cut a little shorter than we would like due to the weather
forecast...as follows:

Saturday: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly
cloudy, with a high near 88. Southwest wind between 10 and 15 mph. New
rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Saturday Night: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly
cloudy, with a low around 69. Southwest wind between 5 and 15 mph. New
rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

But, we won't let this "dampen" our day (ha). We will still set up as
scheduled. I had intended for us to cook supper at the pavilion that
night as has always been our tradition. However, due to the weather, I
would like to schedule our club/family member cookout for lunch that
day. We still have drinks and snack foods left over from the Swap Fest.
Everyone who plans to be there for the cookout at lunch needs to bring
enough grilling meat for their family or their self. (If its hamburgers
or such, bring buns). I will provide the charcoal for the grill and the
grilling utensils. This basically should work like a picnic/cookout.
Bring everything you need and we will share some of our side dishes,
chips etc., with everyone. This should work out well.

As for equipment (the main reason for the event), I will have the Mobile
Emergency Communication Vehicle (ARES Bus) there. It has its own
generator (5kw) and air conditioning for comfort for everyone to get on
and enjoy when it heats up. I will have it parked on-site early that
morning and hang banners and signs on the pavilion to claim our spot
early that morning. I will have an HF rig and power supply on it. We
still need to work on antennas, laptops, 2-meter, HF, tuners, etc. I
know we may not operate everything at once due to interference among
rigs. However, this is still a training exercise even though it is
hyped as a contest weekend. It would be good to see every portable
resource we have to utilize among our club membership and ARES members.
I know this will help me out greatly as well for future reference! If
you can bring additional equipment, please let me know. I would like to
have equipment both under the pavilion and in the ARES Bus as well.

Several of us are still planning to meet at Jack's at 8:00am and then go
to Gene Record Park by 9:00am to begin unloading and setting up. We
will eat lunch around 11:30 or 12:00. Break down will be late afternoon
or early evening depending on the weather radar!

73,

Ron
