Ron,
I made up yet another interface cable as I said I would in the last e-mail
and it's now in place and working. It didn't seem to make any difference
with the RF interference, but it certainly can't hurt. It also allows the
CAT to run off the 12 volts from the VXR so I shut the power off from the
external power supply. So now we are completely on the new repeater.
I also looked into why the interface cable I wanted to use yesterday didn't
work. If you remember I was saying when the COR came up it didn't go all
the way to ground (zero volts), but if I manually grounded the lead it
worked fine. It turns out the issue is that inside the VXR there is a 1.5K
resistor in series with the output lead. So it will never go all the way to
ground. I don't know why they did that, but it is what it is.
I left a drawing of the interface cable and a longer connector cable at the
site. I also attached a final (I hope) drawing to this email.
If you are satisfied with the repeaters performance, the next thing we
probably need to do is get it running on the external battery backup. They
are talking about bad weather late this Friday and Saturday. So maybe we
want to do that before then? I think it's just a matter of running a cable
from the fuse panel to the back of the repeater and then unplugging the 110
from the repeater and allow it to run 100% of the time with our power
arrangement. I think that will work fine.
