It's supposed to be really hot and maybe stormy so we don't know how this is
going to go but Joe and I will be there. We're bringing Ramen cabbage salad
and strawberries and grapes. Joe's also bringing an HF radio, laptop
computer for digital modes, pocket APRS and misc. radio junk.

Subject: [W4FHU] Hello to the club
Well, back in March field day seemed like a great idea. With much
enthusiasm, we paid the rent for our favorite spot at Chickasaw State Park.
I agreed that I would cook and if all goes to plan that is what we will be
doing Saturday. Due to the heat and the fact that we would rather eat, we
agreed at the last club meeting to hold the eating portion of the weekend
earlier. This will be a late lunch early supper! We will commence gathering
at the Park around 10-10:30 a.m. with plans to eat around 2:00 p.m.
Here is the menu that I am preparing:
Keeping in mind of the heat I will have some of the stuff prepared and iced
down till close to time to eat and then heat on the grill. I do have bottle
water that I am freezing so that it will be good and cold and sure to melt
as the day goes on but bring your on drink for the meal.
We have plates, utensils, cups that was already purchased.
Here is what the Burkhead Clan is bringing:
Tenderloin (these will be pre cooked at home and sliced) we will warm on the
grill
Instant mashed potatoes (prepared on the grill) These are actually really
good!
Baked Beans (the kind with the secret family recipe) warmed straight from
the can on the grill.
Yeast rolls (unless I give into temptation - then you will have some other
rolls from the Piggly Wiggly store)
Cole Slaw (prepared at the store and kept on ice till just before)
If someone has a COOL dessert that they would like to bring that would be
great!
The menu was decided by what to fix with the Tenderloin that wouldn't be too
heavy on the stomach in the heat! Please feel free to bring other veggies
and desserts. Since we never know how many will show up, I am preparing for
around 20-25 (unless there are starving people). So be there at 2 or prepare
to scrape the pans for leftovers. I chose things that I know I can fix on
the grill in throw away pans without spending hours over the heat. Safety
first.
Hopefully some of the men will tell what equipment will be there since that
is what field day is all about. Another thought: Since we do have AC Power,
bring a fan if you have one! We are bringing one. If too many, we will use
to keep the flys off the food.
Hope to see all there!
AG4BD Louise and K4TC Mike.
